The Newcastle Knights suffered a 36-12 defeat against Brisbane on Thursday night but took heart from the performance of new boy Anthony Milford who impressed on debut.
The Knights are priced at 14/1 to make the top eight this season but they continue to struggle after picking up just three wins all season.
Coach Adam O’Brien says there was a lot to like about Milford’s performance as the playmaker got a full game under his belt.
"I don't think it looked his first game in a long time," he said. "He had some really good touches early and I was like: 'Oh, hang on, this is going to be a fun night'. I think there were a few things he would like back in the second half, as (do the rest of) us as a team."

Newcastle were well in the game at 14-12 late in the second half but the Broncos ran away with it in the closing stages. They were not helped by a contentious decision by the bunker when a Selwyn Cobbo try was allowed to stand despite an obvious obstruction in the build up.
But O’Brien was not using that as an excuse. “(The missed obstruction call) is no reason for that scoreline at the end. It’s inexcusable,” he said. “I get that it took a bit of wind out of the sails. It didn’t help.”
Meanwhile Ponga was also impressed with Milford and thinks there is even more to come.
"I thought he had some quality touches. He's pretty quiet in nature in and around the joint, but on the field he's quite vocal," he said. "I think he's only going to grow as well with the team.”
