The first Manchester derby of the 2022/23 season takes place at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 2nd October, kicking off at 14:00.

The second game of the season is planned for the weekend of Saturday 14th January.

As well as the pair's two Premier League games, there is also the possibility they could meet in the EFL Cup and FA Cup.

Where is the Manchester derby?

Both the Etihad and Old Trafford host Manchester derbies. However, neutral venues have been used in the past for the latter stages of the two domestic cup competitions, as well as the Community Shield.

Sheffield United's Bramall Lane and Wembley have both been used for FA Cup semi-finals in 1926 and 2011, respectively. The latter also staged the pair's Community Shield meeting in 2011.

Can I watch the Manchester derby?

The Manchester derby is one of the highlights of the Premier League season and is often broadcast live on British television, as well as abroad to a worldwide audience.

BT and Sky Sports hold the majority of television rights for the Premier League in Britain and the latter will broadcast Sunday's match on their Main Event and Premier League channels.

How many times has the Manchester derby taken place?

The Manchester derby is one of the longest-running derbies in world football, with the pair having met on 187 occasions.

United have won on 77 occasions, with City triumphing 57 times and the pair drawing 53 games.

In total, 166 of those fixtures have taken place as part of the English football league pyramid, with 21 cup ties being held.

The two have never met in a major final, although they have clashed in numerous semi-finals.

Have any players played for both rivals in the Manchester derby?

In total, 40 players have played for both clubs. Denis Law, a hero of United's 1968 European Cup win, famously scored the winner for City at Old Trafford in 1974.

Another member of United's victorious side of 1968 was Brian Kidd, who scored the final goal in the 4-1 win over Benfica.

Kidd played for City between 1976 and 1979 and also served as an assistant manager under both Roberto Mancini and Pep Guardiola.

Carlos Tevez famously crossed Manchester in 2009, while a United player who spent time in City's academy could start on Sunday in the form of Jadon Sancho.

Law and Kidd's boss Matt Busby played for City but managed United, while Steve Coppell and Mark Hughes did the opposite.

The only manager to have coached both clubs is Ernest Mangall, who was in charge of United between 1903-1912, before switching to City, whom he managed from 1912 to 1924.

Mangall's final game in charge of United was a derby which City won 1-0, while he also spent spells during his playing career with each club.

Who has made the most appearances in the Manchester derby?

The player to have made the most appearances in Manchester derbies is Ryan Giggs.

The Welshman spent his entire playing career at Manchester United, representing the Red Devils from 1990 to 2014.

During that time, he made 36 appearances in Manchester derbies.

Who is the record goalscorer in the Manchester derby?

Again it is a United player who has scored the most goals in Manchester derbies.

Wayne Rooney scored 11 times while representing the Red Devils against the Citizens.

There are two City players who have scored 10 times, 1956 FA Cup winner Joe Hayes and 1967/68 First Division winner Francis Lee.

Sergio Aguero almost matched that benchmark, with his nine goals the same number as United icon Bobby Charlton.

Who are the favourites for the Manchester derby?

Manchester City are the 1/3 favourites to win Sunday's match. They won both meetings last season at an aggregate score of 6-1.

United are 13/2 to claim a 32nd away league win against their neighbours, while the draw is 19/4.
