Australian Racing - Racing: Allen confident in Yonce hopes

John Allen is confident that unbeaten runner Yonce can show herself well up to the grade when she contests the Queen Of The Turf Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

The Group 1, for which she is a 6/1 chance, will represent the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained mare’s toughest task to date and will also be her first ever contest in Sydney.

However, the four-year-old will be ridden by Allen, fresh from his Group 1 Australian Derby win on Hitotsu, and he feels she could be something special.

"I thought she was always a nice filly, but every day she's gone to the races she’s really stepped up," Allen told RacingNSW. "She hasn't disappointed us yet, she's shown really good ability and I'm hoping that she's up to it.

"It is a big step up in class, but I think she is pretty good. I'm going there quite confident she can put up a good show."

Yonce made it six wins from six starts last time out over 2000 metres at Flemington, a run that Allen feels will have been good practice leading into Randwick's tough mile.

"I don't think she will be too dour back to what I imagine would be a hotly run mile on a heavy track so I think having that run over 2000 metres might work out well," Allen said.
