Western United boss John Aloisi refused to rip into his players despite them squandering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Macarthur FC at Campbelltown Stadium.
Western moved to the top of the A-League ladder courtesy of the point they picked up and are surprise contenders to win the grand final, but they should have had all three.
Western got off to a great start when taking the lead after just 16 minutes when Nicolas Milanovic grabbed his first A-League goal on debut after sweeping home a Ben Garuccio cross.
The points appeared to be in the bag 16 minutes from time when Aleksandar Prijovic fired home after latching on to a pass from substitute Lachie Wales.
Western go second after City win
But the match was not over with Lachlan Rose pulling one back for the Bulls in the 77th minute before Leo Lacroix put the ball in his own net on 87 minutes.
Aloisi was obviously a touch disappointed after the final whistle but has been in the game long enough to know these things happen and he refused to be too harsh on his players.
"It was very humid here, It was a tough night for the boys physically but they worked well, they worked hard," he told reporters after the game.
"There's a lot of heads that are down In there, but I'm proud of them. We felt we were going to win the game, but in football things can turn very quickly and these things happen."
Aloisi is also aware that it has not been easy with games being postponed and then having to catch up with a hectic schedule.
"We didn't have a pre-season with a lot of games and then all of a sudden we're out four weeks and then a couple of weeks later, you need to back up three days after a game," Aloisi added. "Its important that we use the fresher players."
