Collingwood coach Craig McRae took the positives out of Saturday’s loss against Geelong and says his players are quickly adapting to a new game style.
The Pies are hoping to make a push to get in the top eight but they are going through some changes following the arrival of first-year coach McRae.
Collingwood let the game slip away from them against the Cats. After dominating the third quarter, booting nine goals, they led by 30 points.
However they let it slip in the final term as Geelong kicked seven unanswered goals to win the game 16.8 (104) to 13.13 (91).
Even so McRae refused to be downbeat after the game and preferred to focus on the way his side are improving under his leadership.
"I wasn't sure we'd pick up the game style this quick but we've been really competitive and again tonight you saw our style," McRae told reporters after the game.
"You come watch us play and you go, 'Wow, this is an exciting brand, the pressure's really high'. You know how we're trying to play and we've got to try to do it for longer but I think ultimately the players, after tonight, feel like they can trust the system and it works.
"In these games, even though you don't get the result, there's a level of belief in what we're doing is right."
Meanwhile McRae also played down fears over Steele Sidebottom and says he left the field after suffering from cramp and nothing else. The winger had gastro earlier in the week and the game eventually took its toll.
