Reinsman Greg Sugars spoke of his pride in Better Eclipse after the Jess Tubbs-trained pacer earned him his first ever win in the Group 1 Chariots of Fire on Saturday night.
The race was run at a frantic pace as Better Eclipse clocked a mile rate of 1.47.6 to edge out Bondi Lockdown by 1.4metres while huge outsider Chevron Art made up the podium with third place.
The speed of Better Eclipse almost left Sugars speechless after the race as the time they clocked was just short of the track record of 1.46.9 that was set by Field Marshal.
Sugars has driven some of the best pacers in some of the top races but even he was left surprised by the manner of the victory.

Just to put the icing on the cake, Better Eclipse has now earned an automatic entry in to the million dollar Garrards Miracle Mile being run at Tabcorp Park Menangle on 5th March.
And Sugars is excited to see what the future holds.
"This is my first success in the Chariots, and I could not be prouder of Better Eclipse," Sugars told reporters after the race. "I have driven in the race many times and to win my first one aboard this horse and for Jess is just a dream.
"This bloke means a lot to us, and I have driven him for most of his career, not only for Jess but also for his original trainer Craig Hoban.
"His rise through the ranks has been incredible. We keep stepping him up and he rises to the occasion. To have now won the Chariots of Fire and to have a shot at the Miracle Mile is both surreal and very satisfying for us."
