NFL - US Sports: Bowles coy on duo's future

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles admits the futures of tight end Rob Gronkowski and defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh, who are still free agents, remains "up in the air right now".

Both veterans were key figures in the Bucs' Super Bowl LV-winning roster and were generally expected to re-sign with Tampa Bay, who are 15/2 to regain the Lombardi trophy this coming season, once Tom Brady announced he was reversing his retirement decision.

Bowles cool on situation

Bowles, who moved up from defensive co-ordinator last month, when former coach Bruce Arians moved upstairs into an executive role, would ideally like to have clarity on either Gronkowski or Suh's plans before the Bucs make their first draft pick late on Thursday evening.

"If possible, yeah," he said, via Tampa Bay Times. "But that's not going to detract our board, though.

"It's up in the air right now, but I feel OK about it. There are still things to work out, and we'll see what the draft brings and we'll keep working with those guys, as well."

Bucs looking at tight ends

Gronkowski is hosting his Gronk Beach party at Las Vegas' Encore Beach Club this week and may or may not hint about his thinking while there.

While the Bucs are otherwise shorthanded at tight end and likely to draft one on the second or third days of the draft, Suh's situation could depend on whether general manager Jason Licht and his scouts use their first-round pick on another defensive lineman.

Bowles is so satisfied with the Bucs' pre-draft homework that he intends to play in Monday afternoon's Arians Family Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic at Innisbrook.

"The work is done, the hay is almost quite in the barn," Bowles added during Sunday evening's pre-golf gala at the resort. "But there's still a few kinks to work out."
