World Cup: Brazil team profile

Brazil have won the World Cup a record five times and will be aiming to add another title to their tally at the 2022 edition in Qatar.

The South American giants are typically a joy to watch, and this time will be no different. With players such as Neymar Jr amongst their ranks, they are capable of almost anything, including taking a sixth World Cup back to Brazil.

They are priced at 9/2 to win the tournament outright, and will undoubtedly arrive in Qatar full of confidence.

Brazil's World Cup record

Brazil are the only country to feature in every World Cup tournament since the tournament first kicked off in 1930, appearing a record 22 times in the competition.

During this time, they have claimed victory on five occasions, and have finished runners-up twice.

Their spectacular performances over the years in the competition are unrivalled by any country, their success a standout sign of talent and longevity at the highest level of international football.

In spite of this, Brazil have failed to lift the World Cup trophy since 2002 in Japan, when they defeated Germany 2-0.

How did Brazil qualify?

Tite's side qualified with a breeze. During the CONMEBOL qualifiers, Brazil topped the group comfortably, winning 14 out of a possible 17, which saw them pick up 45 points and finish six clear of Uruguay in second.

Brazil made easy work of the majority of their competition, authoritatively claiming 4-0 victories over the likes of Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay and Chile, while more recently dispatching of South Korea 5-1 in a friendly in June.

Who is in Brazil's group?

Brazil have been drawn in Group G, along with Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon. They open their campaign against Serbia on 24th November and conclude their group stage action on 2nd December, where they will face off against Cameroon.

The Selecao are 4/9 favourites to top their group. The three other contenders of Group G however should pose little threat.

The winner of Group G will take on the runner-up of Group H, which consists of Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea. With Portugal expected to top the group, Uruguay could lie in wait for Brazil.

The prospect of a fierce, all-South American last 16 tie between Brazil and Uruguay is tasty and tantalising, to say the least.

Who is Brazil's manager?

Taking over as Brazil manager in June 2016, Tite has overseen 74 fixtures, winning 55 of those, equating to a healthy 74.32 per cent-win rate.

Tite previously had managerial stints at various sides in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, including the likes of Corinthians, Palmeiras and Atletico Mineiro.

Tite has acquired silverware during his time in charge, including leading the national team to their ninth Copa America in 2019, when Brazil as the host nation sealed a 3-1 win over Peru in the final.

Who is Brazil's key player?

With Brazil's squad being almost untouchable in most departments, it is tricky to single out key individuals from an abundance of raw talent.

But it is set in stone that Neymar Jr is the most valuable asset in their arsenal. The PSG forward has enjoyed an immensely successful career - considered by some to be the heir to the legendary Ronaldinho.

Some other candidates, include Vinicius Jr, who scored the winner in the Champions League final when Real Madrid emerged victorious over Liverpool earlier in the year.

The young, electric forward has had an eye-catching year seeing him tie down a new, long-term deal at Madrid.

Alisson and Ederson are both world class figures between the sticks, and veterans such as Thiago Silva and Casemiro continue their established careers in Qatar too.

Who is Brazil's rising star?

Real Madrid's Rodrygo has also made a name for himself this year, coming off the bench late on in the Champions League semi-final against Manchester City, scoring twice to secure Madrid a place in the final.

The talented youngster looks nailed on to make his first appearance at a World Cup as he seeks to further enhance his growing reputation.

West Ham's showboating midfielder Lucas Paqueta is also another one to watch. The 24-year-old registered 35 league appearances last season, scoring on nine occasions.

What is Brazil's predicted line-up and tactics?

Brazil's predicted line-up & formation: (4-3-3) – Alisson; Dani Alves, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Sandro; Fred, Casemiro, Paqueta; Neymar Jr, Richarlison, Vinicius Jr.

Tite and his men are accustomed to adopting the 4-3-3 setup, and no change from the norm is expected ahead of their feature in Qatar.

The same fast, tiki-taka, flair style of play is to be expected from the Selecao, with expansive attacking football likely to be on show.

How far can Brazil go?

The Brazilian faithful will cheer on their side to bring home the World Cup for the first time in 20 years, and there is no reason why they shouldn't be successful in doing so.

With the players available, Tite will be expected to take his nation all the way. They are priced at 9/2 to win the tournament.
