St George Illawarra prop George Burgess says he is feeling fit and strong ahead of the 2022 NRL campaign after recovering well from a hip injury.
The Dragons are priced at 40/1 to win the 2022 NRL grand final and will be hoping that Burgess can play a key role after arriving from English Super League club Wigan.
There were fears over the fitness of Burgess who underwent a hip resurfacing operation back in April of last year, but he appears to have made a full recovery.
The former South Sydney ace came off the bench in the 26-22 trial win over Parramatta on Sunday and says he has come through the hit-out without any issues.
Sullivan set sights on Dragons role
It was Burgess' first outing since he played for Wigan in late 2020 and all the hard work he has put into his rehabilitation has paid off.
"I wasn't too nervous just because of the work I've put in," Burgess said. "I was pretty confident and it felt good to get out there with the boys and a new team. I had full contact off the kick-off and I didn't feel any pain in my hip.
"I felt strong and fit and it pulled up sweet, so I'm really happy with it."
Meanwhile Burgess has also piled the praise on to Dragons coach Anthony Griffin and says he has been a huge influence already.
"He's been awesome, just a straight-talking coach and you know where you stand with him," he added. "He keeps pushing me throughout the journey of getting my hip right."
