We’ve four meetings for punters to get involved with this Tuesday with forecast heavy 10 tracks at Ballina and Goulburn plus a soft 5 at Townsville and an eight race synthetics card at Ballarat Synthetic.
Mo for victory
In the fifth race at Townsville the top weight Light Field looks sure to have his supporters having won both starts at this track this spell including on a good 4 surface over 1400m last month.
The five-year-old has been kept away from soft surfaces since finishing runner-up in a maiden on a soft 5 at Cairns in March last year and with that in mind he is overlooked with preference for Lacey Morrison’s mount Call Me Mo.
Twice a winner from four starts this spell the pick delivered a victory in a Benchmark 65 contest over 1500m at Cairns last month on his most recent start. Made all that day but is a tactically versatile sort having been ridden from behind the speed when finishing runner-up in a Benchmark 55 event over the same course and distance prior.
Has shown good form on soft surfaces in the past including when winning in a Benchmark 55 event on a heavy 8 track at Cairns in May and with trainer Sharlee D’Avila boasting an impressive 24% strike-rate (18/76) at this track in the last year her representative here looks up to delivering a winning effort.
Take Victims to score
Princess Tina has gained plenty of experience ahead of the second at Ballarat Synthetic, a 1400m maiden plate. Alana Kelly was on board for her first three starts last spell including when a close up second in a 1300m maiden on a good 4 track at Ararat in November.
The four-year-old failed to make a breakthrough however including in a 1600m maiden on a good 4 surface at Colac in February. Spelled since she may have to give best to one of her less exposed rivals with Victims rating the pick on that score for trainer James Cummings.
The Medaglia d’Oro colt showed good form when ridden from fifth in a seven runner field in a 1200m maiden on a soft 5 surface on the turf track here on debut. Had excuses when drawn out wide when disappointing over 1300m at Bendigo subsequently with heavy 8 track possibly against him that day.
A switch to synthetics here should prove no issue and the filly is selected to provide jockey Blaike McDougall with a winner.
Charlemagne for Goulburn victory
Reoffender performed well when taking out a Class 2 over 1500m at this venue in July last year and she returned from an absence to deliver a good second place finish at this level in a 1300m contest on a soft 7 track in May. Freshened up since she looks to be a leading player with Kathy O’Hara, on board last time out again in the saddle.
The record of trainer Danielle Seib here takes the eye ahead of this contest with the handler boasting a 33% strike-rate (5/15) here in the last year. She saddles Charlemagne here with the selection appearing to get on well with apprentice rider Hannah Williams having won once and finished third once from two starts under the jockey.
The winner of Benchmark 58 event over 1000m on a soft track here three starts back the selection could finish only ninth in a metro race over 1200m at Rosehill eleven days later. Proved up to putting that effort behind him with Williams back in the saddle to finish third, beaten less than a length in a Benchmark 58 event over 1000m at this track last month.
Usually races from off the pace and with that in mind a draw in eight shouldn’t inconvenience with Easy Rosie, drawn widest of all under Jeff Penza the most likely to want to get to the lead following a down the field effort under a change of tactics last time out.
