Harness Racing: Callaghan ready to go again

Star reinsman Jack Callaghan believes the extra week could be a blessing in disguise for Spirit Of St Louis as they prepare to tackle Saturday night's Miracle Mile.

The $1million feature race should have taken place last Saturday but torrential rain and storms in New South Wales forced the race to be abandoned.

Blessing in disguise

Callaghan was disappointed that the biggest night of his young career was postponed but preferred to focus on the positives instead.

And he is convinced the extra week of preparation will have the Belinda McCarthy-trained pacer in top shape as they prepare to try again on Saturday night.

"Louis thrives on week-to-week racing but at the same time he can be lethal when fresh," Callaghan told reporters.

"I really think gate two is a perfect draw for him as I should be able to have him prominently placed in the firing line to be running on at the finish.

"Whether it is on the pegs or in the running line, I know he will be hitting the line with a full head of steam."

The King the one to beat

Callaghan and Spirit Of St Louis will be up against a star-studded field and the young reinsman is in no doubt that King Of Swing is the one he will have to get past to win.

Most drivers think the same and Callaghan admits the King is all class.

"The King has drawn so well and will be aiming to make history by winning three in a row," the reinsman added. "He is all class and will take a power of beating."
