The St.Louis Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak spoke with MLB.com about some of their young players who have yet to make the 40-man roster in Nolan Gorman, Masyn Winn and Jordan Walker.
The Cardinals are 18/1 to win the 2022 World Series after reaching the postseason last campaign before losing in the National League Wild Card game to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Nolan Gorman had an excellent year at the plate in 2021, playing 119 games between Double-A and Triple-A, hitting a .279 batting average.
The 21-year-old is now considered among the top 60 prospects in the game by each of Baseball America, FanGraphs and MLB Pipeline. He can play second base, along with his preferred position at third. The Cardinals already have an excellent third baseman in Nolan Arenado, who is under contract until 2027.

Mozeliak spoke to MLB.com about Gorman: "Very impressive. His development and how he's growing and creating more value for himself by playing multiple positions, it's a positive. From an offensive standpoint we're all excited to see what he's capable of doing."
For Winn, Mozeliak said that the youngster will be focused exclusively on playing shortstop this spring. The Cardinals drafted Winn as a two-way player in 2020 and he played both aspects of his game last year. However, he only had one appearance on the mound, he hit .242, so it seems his pitching will be out on the back-burner for now.
As for Jordan Walker, Mozeliak said: "He's gonna get work at most places, but he's such a good athlete I don't think that's a panic moment for us, we will find you a place to play."
Walker made 366 plate appearances last year and hit .317, he only played third base though, he needs to adapt his game to somewhere else for the moment.
