Aussie Rules: Cats boosted as star duo return

Geelong have been boosted by the news captain Joel Selwood and ruckman Rhys Stanley will return to action when the Cats face St Kilda on Saturday.

Geelong are priced at 1/6 to finish in the top eight this season and coach Chris Scott is adopting a conservative approach with some of his veterans to ensure they are on the park as much as possible.

Thigh issue for Selwood

Selwood missed the win over GWS last week with a thigh injury while Stanley pulled out late after picking up an issue with his ankle.

Scott says Selwood was unable to face the Giants but expects him to be fresh and ready to go against St Kilda.

Goodwin says more to come from Demons

"He had a series of corks in his quad that just meant that he wasn't going to be right to play (last week)," Scott said of Selwood. "We have been consistent throughout the course of the year, probably the last couple of years, in that our priority is to make sure that all our guys go out and play when they're in a position to play at their best.

"We don't want to ask those guys and push through things that limit them too much. The week off will help Joel a lot."

Stanley boost

The injury to Stanley was nothing serious but again Scott was not willing to take any risks on the player against Greater Western Sydney.

"He was obviously close to getting to the line last week without quite making it, we were always optimistic that he would come up this week," he added.
