Cheltenham: Chacun Pour Soi heading back to Cheltenham

Chacun Pour Soi is set to return to the Cheltenham Festival for another crack at the Queen Mother Champion Chase after he bounced back to his brilliant best at Leopardstown.

The ten-year-old has, priced at 5/1 for the Queen Mother Champion Chase, won nine of his 15 starts under rules but has failed to show his best on two trips to Britain, instead saving his best performances for racecourses nearer to home in Ireland.

Cheltenham disappointment

Trained by Willie Mullins, Chacun Pour Soi could only finish third behind Put The Kettle On and Nube Negra in last season's Champion Chase and he was a similarly disappointing last of five behind Greaneteen in this season's Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown.

Leopardstown trip offers hope

However, he was back to the top of his game in the Dublin Chase at Leopardstown's Dublin Racing Festival.

Always positioned handy under Paul Townend, Chacun Pour Soi asserted his dominance in the closing stages to run out a 12-length winner, with Dunvegan back in second and Captain Guinness third.

Townend will have a choice to make between Chacun Pour Soi and Energumene if both turn up for the Champion Chase.

Owner Rich Ricci said: "He jumped and ran well and he loves it around here. He's a great horse on his day and is lightly raced.

"He fluffed at Cheltenham in the past, our year was probably two years ago when he was hurt the morning of the Champion Chase and was not right the next day, so I think we'll have to go back and take a chance after today. We'll see who Paul rides, but it was a very good performance."
