Defenceman Ben Chiarot says he's excited by the trade which has seen him move from the Montreal Canadiens to the Florida Panthers, as it gives him another opportunity to contend for the Stanley Cup.
The Panthers, 11/2 to win the Stanley Cup, announced the deal for the 30-year-old on Wednesday, notably sending a first-round draft-pick in the 2023 NHL draft pick to the Canadiens in exchange.
Chiarot has scored 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 54 games for the Canadiens this season, which was his third in Montreal.
Despite making the Stanley Cup Final last season, Montreal have struggled this season and find themselves eighth in the Atlantic Division, paving the way for Chiarot to move to the Panthers (41-14-6) who top the eight-team Division.

Chiarot was in the final season of a three-year, $10.5million contract which he signed with the Canadiens on 4th July 2019 and Montreal will retain 50 per cent of his salary.
Over 469 NHL regular season games with the Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets, who drafted him in the 2009 draft, Chiarot has collected 110 points (29 goals, 81 assists).
In 56 play-off appearances the Hamilton, Ontario native has seven points (one goal, six assists).
Chiarot said to the media following the trade to Florida: "They have a great chance of making a nice run and definitely hungry to get back there (the Stanley Cup Final).
"It's a team that's been at the top of standings really since the start of the season, right from the get-go. They've been sort of a powerhouse team."
