Scans have confirmed St Kilda starlet Nick Coffield has torn his ACL meaning he will be forced to sit out the entire 2022 AFL campaign.
St Kilda are priced at 8/5 to finish in the top eight and play AFL finals but they could have done without such a cruel blow before the season has even started.
The 22-year-old midfielder looked to be in immediate distress when landing awkwardly during a match simulation session on Friday and it was feared he had done his ACL.
Coffield was sent for scans and the results which came back on Saturday have confirmed the club’s worst fears.

The youngster will now need to undergo a knee reconstruction before starting on the long road to recovery and the club will be with him every step of the way.
The date for the surgery has yet to be locked in but should be in the next couple of weeks so the rehab can start.
Saints chief operating officer Simon Lethlean admits the news is a big blow as the player was gearing up for a big season but has backed him to make a full recovery.
Full Saints support
"Nick had been doing everything right this pre-season and we were really looking forward to seeing what he could achieve this year," Lethlean said after the news was broken.
"This is a big blow to Nick, but we know he’ll be doing everything he can to get back out there as soon as possible.
"While this is a significant setback, Nick has the full support of the entire club as he attacks his rehabilitation."
