Aussie Rules: Cole pens new Eagles deal

West Coast Eagles star Tom Cole is determined to take the club back to the top after penning a new three-year contract.

The Eagles have made a horror start to the new season as they sit bottom of the ladder with one win from 10 games. They are priced at 150/1 to make the top eight and play finals.

Cole keeps the faith

There have been suggestions that the Eagles are a club in decline and a rebuild is needed. At 25 Cole’s best years are to come and he could be forgiven for looking to play them elsewhere while the Eagles rebuild.

However the player never had any intention of walking away and is delighted to put pen-to-paper.

"It was never a tough decision for me, I was always going to do it," Cole said of the new deal. "This club took me in when I was 18. I've loved every moment I've had here and just looking forward to the future and a few more years to my career.

"I just want to be a part of hopefully more success in the future with this club. It's been a bit of a tough year this year, but I'm getting older so I have to be more of a leader within the club."

Ankle injury

Cole is one of a number of players to be on the sidelines through injury but he hopes to be back in the side to help lead the revival sooner rather than later.

"The ankle is progressing well. It's all systems go really. It's up to the physios to create a plan for me to hopefully be back within somewhere between 8-10 weeks,” he added.
