The Community Shield is often described as the 'curtain raiser' to the new domestic English season, which normally takes place the week before the Premier League starts.

The prestigious game sees the Premier League winners from the previous season go head-to-head against the FA Cup winners.

When is the Community Shield?

The match is generally held the week before the start of the new Premier League season and in 2022-23 the clash will take place on Saturday, 30th July.

Kick off between FA Cup winners Liverpool and Premier League champions Manchester City is at 17:00.

Where is the Community Shield?

Wembley is the regular home of the season curtain raiser, but other grounds have played host to the historic game - including Leicester's King Power Stadium in 2022.

The national stadium began hosting the match, which used to be called the Charity Shield, in 1974 and this will be only the eighth time since then that another ground has been confirmed as the venue.

Can I watch the Community Shield?

The one-off clash is normally televised live and in 2022 it will be shown on ITV and on STV for viewers in Scotland.

How many times has the Community Shield take place?

The Community Shield first took place back in 1908, when Manchester United and Queens Park Rangers playing in the inaugural match.

For the first 65 years, the game was played at different stadiums until Wembley hosted in 1974, when Liverpool and Leeds United went head-to-head.

Cardiff's Millennium Stadium played host when Wembley was being re-built, between 2001 and 2006, while Villa Park was the venue for Manchester City v Chelsea in 2012.

That game was moved due to Wembley hosting the final of the Olympics' football tournament.

This year's Community Shield clash has been moved to Leicester City’s home ground as Wembley plays host to the final of the Women's European Championship.

Who has won the Community Shield on the most occasions?

Manchester United, who won the inaugural shield after a replay, have won the Community Shield on 21 occasions - more than any other club.

Arsenal are the second most successful team in Community Shield history, with 16 victories, while Liverpool have won it on 15 occasions.

Manchester City are making their 14th appearance in 2022, with the Citizens having lifted the shield on six previous occasions.

Who are the favourites for the Community Shield?

It's the Premier League champions who are the favourites to win the match this year, with City available at 7/5. FA Cup winners Liverpool can be backed at 19/10.

With two new strikers likely to be on show, Erling Haaland of City and Liverpool's Darwin Nunez, many will expect goals at King Power Stadium.

Both teams to score in the 30th July clash is currently available at 4/6, while over 3.5 goals can be backed at 11/5.
