NRL: Cowboys are staying grounded says prop

North Queensland prop Jordan McLean insists the Cowboys are not getting ahead of themselves following a strong start to the 2022 NRL campaign.

The Cowboys are out to make the top eight this season and have surprised the whole competition by winning the last four games on the bounce.

Magic Round

They will be looking to make it five on the spin when they face the Wests Tigers in this weekend’s Magic Round in Brisbane before they take on the Melbourne Storm in round 11.

But they are not looking too far ahead. The Tigers clash is the priority and McLean says they are keeping their feet on the ground.

“The last four weeks have been going along really well but we’re definitely not getting ahead of ourselves,” McLean told reporters. “We started well last week [against Newcastle] and then we went through a little patch where we got a bit scrappy with ill-discipline so we’re just trying to be disciplined and get through our sets for the 80 minutes.”

Cotter impressed

Meanwhile Reuben Cotter is impressing since switching to hooker, but he says the whole group are impressing in training, which bodes well for the rest of the season.

“The way the boys are gelling is really pleasing,” Cotter added. “Our training sessions are intense, everyone is ripping in, we build during the week and the results are showing.

“There’s a good feeling around the place and the community really gets around us. We haven’t felt like this for a few years. “
