Aussie Rules: Crows wait on Sloane scans

Adelaide are sweating on the fitness of captain Rory Sloane after picking up a groin injury in the clash with Collingwood on Friday night.

The Crows are priced at 9/1 to finish in the top eight of the AFL and will now be keeping their fingers crossed for news on Sloane.

Injury concerns

Sloane picked up the injury early in the final quarter as Adelaide slipped to defeat against the Pies and is now waiting to discover the full extent of the damage.

The Crows play Port Adelaide in the big derby clash in round three and Sloane now faces an anxious wait to see if he will be able to play.

"It was a little bit tender going into the game but first kick, something sort of tweaked in there," Sloane told reporters on Monday. "But I was confident that I could play out the game or play a reasonable amount of the game.

"And then obviously when the game was done and dusted it was good to get Solly (substitute Jake Soligo) on. We will see how this pulls up over coming days but feeling reasonably confident."

Laird boost

There is some good news though as Rory Laird is poised to return against the Power after missing the opening two games.

Both Adelaide and Port have yet to win this season and Sloane is demanding a response from his players.

"We just want to focus on getting our game right," Sloane added. "We played a half and a bit of footy in round one and our ball movement on the weekend was solid but we let ourselves down around the contest and our ability to defend. So a Showdown is a perfect opportunity to bounce back."
