Australian Cricket: Cummins content with Aussie options

Australia captain Pat Cummins says he has a pretty good idea of the final XI set to face Pakistan in the first Test in Rawalpindi.

The Baggy Greens missed an opportunity to inspect the two potential tracks to be used for the series opener - which the tourists are 8/5 to win - when rain washed out an entire day's practice, but Cummins says that should not make too much difference to the final selection.

He told reporters: "Not being able to get down there means there's two days without seeing the wicket between the toss and yesterday's training session."

Cummins gives little away

"I don't have an XI yet. We're pretty sure, but we just want to have another look at the wicket.

"We have got a fair idea of what we want to do, but don't want to make the call too early without fully knowing what the wicket is."

One major issue is whether to select a second frontline spinner to back up star off-spinner Nathan Lyon, with leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson and left-armer Ashton Agar the two candidates.

Recent results suggest that pace may be the way to go for Cummins, but should an additional slow bowler be drafted in, he has not doubts that they will rise to the challenge.

Spin options hailed by skipper

He added: "They are both great options. Sweppo as a leg-spinner is a real luxury to have, he has been bowling fantastically, he is ready to go.

"And similar to Ash Agar. He hasn't played a lot of red-ball cricket, but he has been fantastic whenever he has played for Australia.

"He has really grown as a bowler in the last couple of years, so either of those two are absolutely ready for Test cricket if they get a chance."
