Dan Azeez maintained his unbeaten record as he made an impressive defence of his British light-heavyweight title against Shakan Pitters in the first fight of the televised card.

The Londoner dominated from the offset and dished out a second defeat to his opponent courtesy of a landslide points victory, on the back of what proved to be a real throwback firefight.

Many had anticipated Pitters’ height and reach advantage to work to his advantage, but that was far from the case as Azeez’s intelligence and stamina proved too much for the Birmingham fighter.

It was a crushing blow to Pitters’ hopes of reclaiming the British crown, having been halted by Craig Richard’s in his last attempt at claiming the gold.

Speaking to the media following his victory, Azeez lavished praise upon his dogged opponent and name-dropped former Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion Lyndon Arthur as his potential next opponent.

“I had a feeling it was going to be this kind of fight – I knew what it means for Shakan, but it means equally as much to me too,” the 33-year-old said.

“I knew he’d come out fast and strong, and for the first four rounds he was sharp – but he started to back up after that.

“He was always in there though, he landed one or two big shots, so kudos to him for that because he put it all on the line.

“I’m going to go and chill now, but looking to the future, how about Lyndon Arthur? Manchester vs London – let’s get it on!”
