Manly Sea Eagles star Daly Cherry-Evans has fired a chilling warning to the rest of the NRL by claiming Tom Trbojevic can get even better in the 2022 season.
The Sea Eagles are priced at 7/1 to win the 2022 NRL grand final and while they have Trbojevic in the side there is always hope they can upset the formbook.
The Sea Eagles fullback was outstanding in the 2021 season when scoring 28 tries and setting up 31 more as Des Hasler's men made it to the preliminary finals.
Trbojevic also won the Dally Medal and picked up every individual award available to him including best fullback and also try of the year.
Sea Eagles ace fired up for 2022
That kind of season will take some beating but Cherry-Evans believes there is still room for improvement and Trbojevic can help lift the Manly defence in 2022.
"He can (get better)," Cherry-Evans warned. "Any player who keeps playing in the NRL can get better. Obviously Tommy has set a ridiculously high standard for himself and he's super-eager to prove that's not a fluke. I'll back him in for that.
"There are going to be things that he's going to be better at this year that aren't going to bring up a nice stat for everyone to talk about. But it will make us a better side."
Scoring points was not an issue for Manly last season but at the other they conceded on average 20 per game and suffered heavy defeats against Melbourne, Penrith and South Sydney.
That is an area they need to improve and Trbojevic is key to that happening.
"Defensively a fullback is arguably they are the most important area in your defensive line," Cherry-Evans added. "Their positioning, when they are in and out of the line.
"All of those things come with time, working with your coaching staff and learning from previous years. Tom is working really hard on things like that. He has made a really big impact on our preseason with defence."
