Lord Titanium will be aimed at the APG Gold Bullion heats next month after causing an upset at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
Lord Titanium came from the back of the field to score a convincing win in the $50,000 DTS Farm Fence Champagne Classic for two-year-olds and now connections have bigger plans for their charge.
The win came out of the blue for part-owner and trainer Steve de Campo, who now has a group 2 victory under his belt.
De Campo picked up Lord Titanium for what looks to be a bargain $22,000. He has already picked up a win, second and third place from his four starts to earn connections $34,740.
“I bought him because I liked his breeding,” said de Campo. “He was out of Betshes Precious, quite a nice mare by Bettors Delight. The colt was a bit small when I bought him, but he has developed into nice horse.
“He will now go into the paddock for four days and then he will come back to get ready for the heats of the APG Gold Bullion on April 5 and 12.”
Looking further ahead the $125,000 Golden Slipper on 30th September is also likely to be a target.
In his latest assignment Lord Titanium looked to be struggling at the back of the field before reinsman Michael Grantham managed to get him fired up with 300metres to go.
De Campo, who admits his horse can be a bit lazy, was hoping for a top-four finish on Friday night so the win even surprised him.
“I was hoping that Lord Titanium would run in the first four,” de Campo added. “He is a lazy horse, and you need to keep at him all the time.
“The more you yell at him, the more he goes. They went hard early which suited him.”
