Coach Peter Laviolette says the Washington Capitals must continue to commit to defence if they are to enjoy success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Capitals, 25/1 to win the Stanley Cup, beat the Boston Bruins 4-2 on Sunday to record a third win in a row and improve their season record to 40-22-10, which ranks fourth in the Metropolitan Division.
Against the Bruins Laviolette's side blocked 25 shots and killed all four Boston powerplays.
Washington are now in possession of the second Wild Card spot from the Eastern Division, a healthy 15 points ahead of their nearest rival New York Islanders.
Laviolette is set to lead the Capital to the play-offs for a second season running - last term they were eliminated over five games by the Bruins in the first round.

The win over Boston followed victories over the Pittsburgh Penguins (6-3) and the reigning Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning (4-3), a stretch Laviolette believes the Capitals should take confidence from.
Laviolette said to the media: "Guys jumping in front of pucks. That's what it's like at the end of the year as you're going in the play-offs. For me, that has to be the commitment.
"Defence is the priority. If we're good defensively, I think we feel like we can score some goals."
