Western United will be without Alessandro Diamanti for the finals campaign but there is a good chance the veteran midfielder will play on next season.
Western are priced at 13/2 to win the A-League grand final but they will have to do it without their Italian playmaker who underwent an arthroscopy on his knee.
Diamanti has not played for Western since 20th February as he struggled with a niggling injury they could not get to the bottom of. The arthroscopy should do the trick but it does mean he will not be fit enough for the finals campaign.
"I'm out and it's sad for me because you how much passion I have for my job, for the game, also for Australia, for the A-League," he said. "It's a bit sad because I want to play on the big stage and I deserve to play because we deserve to play.
Western fear no-one says Aloisi
"It was something mechanic. We took a look, we cleaned and nothing's wrong. I'm lucky because it's the first surgery after a
23-year career."
Diamanti is now 39 but has suggested if all goes well with his rehabilitation he will look to play on in the 2022/23 A-League campaign. He is out of contract at the end of the season but says there is no issue with him penning a new deal if he wants to.
"My signing with my club will never be a problem because we have an unbelievable relationship so we can decide what we want to do. We are adults, no?" he said.
"I'm just focused on my rehab, I just focus to come back like I want. I want to come back fit, I want to come back to make the difference like I have always done in my life.”
