NHL - US Sports: Dubas backs Leafs goaltending

General Manager Kyle Dubas has quashed suggestions that the Toronto Maple Leafs are in the trade market for a netminder, saying he has full confidence in Jack Campbell and Petr Mrazek.

The Maple Leafs, 12/1 to win the Stanley Cup in 2021/22, have conceded 29 goals in the six games of March so far, including five in a defeat to the Buffalo Sabres in the outdoor Heritage Classic on Sunday.

Leafs suffer Campbell blow

Over that stretch, the Leafs are 2-3-1 and have been hit with the news that 30-year-old Campbell will be out for at least two weeks with a rib injury.

Mrazek got the nod in the outdoor game at Tim Hortons Field and made 33 saves after he was pulled from his last start when he conceded four goals on 12 shots in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday.

Campbell has carried the majority of the load for the Leafs this season starting 39 times with 24 wins, a .914 save-percentage and 2.65 goals-against-average (GAA).

Dubas happy with duo

Mrazek, who was signed to partner Campbell in the recent off-season from the Carolina Hurricanes, has started 17 games with 10 wins, a .884 save-percentage and 3.48 GAA.

The 30-year-old has a .909 save-percentage and 2.64 GAA in 265 NHL regular season starts with the Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Red Wings.

Dubas said to the media: "We've got two guys that have been good goaltenders. I mean, Jack played at All-Star level this year, Peter Mrazek's played almost played 300 games in net or nearing that and he's been a good goaltender in his career."

"I don't think goaltending was the issue in the last game and I think we tend to get a little bit game-to-game in this marketplace and I'm not concerned about either one of them."
