Parramatta coach Brad Arthur says the Eels have offered Ryan Matterson a new four-year deal and are hopeful he will sign it.
The Eels are priced at 10/3 to reach the 2022 NRL grand final and Matterson will be key to their chances of going all the way.
Matterson continues to shine for Parramatta and his form has lead to him being named in the New South Wales squad for game one of State of Origin against Queensland on Wednesday night.
It has also attracted the interest of the Dolphins. Their coach Wayne Bennett recently admitted that talks have taken place and they will wait to see what happens.
Reports claim that the Dolphins have offered Matterson a three-year deal. The Eels are said to be offering $2.5million over four years which would put them in the box seat.
Arthur would not talk numbers but did confirm an offer has been put to the forward and they are hopeful he will pen it.
“We have put a good competitive offer for four years to him and we would love him to stay,” Arthur revealed. “He is a local junior, came through our system, and been back now for a couple of years and playing his best footy.
“He is a real integral part of us moving forward. We would love him to stay. I feel like his preference is to stay in Sydney, stay at Parramatta around his family but I am not sure what the Redcliffe offer is.”
