Esports: CS:GO IEM Rio Monday matches

The Legends Stage of the CS:GO IEM Rio is in full swing, with FURIA and Cloud9 having already qualified for the Champions Stage and Ninjas In Pyjamas and FaZe Clan having already been eliminated.

That means the remaining 12 teams in the competition are set to battle it out for the last six spots in the competition's Champions Stage, which operates as a straight knockout tournament.

And Monday is set to be a crucial day of action in the event with all of the remaining sides in action in both high and low matches.

Here is a look at how three of the games could unfold as the teams continue to battle it out for the $500,000 prize money and spots at the IEM Katowice 2023 and the BLAST Premier Final 2022.

Vitality can rise to the occasion against ENCE

OddsENCE +240, Team Vitality -334

Team Vitality went top of the HLTV world CS:GO rankings after winning season 16 of the ESL Pro League earlier this year but they have since dropped to second spot following a tough time in the IEM Rio.

The European outfit first had to battle through the Challengers Stage, scraping through with a 3-2 win-loss record, and they have struggled in the Legends Stage with two defeats from their first three games.

A defeat to ENCE would end their hopes of making the Champions Stage but they can take heart from the fact their opponents are also struggling.

ENCE have also lost two of their three games in the Legends Stage and have a round differential of -10 after losing convincingly to home side FURIA and Fnatic either side of a win against Bad News Eagles.

Vitality are a bigger side than their current record in the IEM Rio suggests, having finished second in the BLAST Premier Spring Final in June and reaching the semi-finals of the BLAST Premier Fall European Showdown last month.

Their added quality should shine through and they are worth backing at -1.5 on the match handicap at +110.

Heroic and Team Liquid could play out humdinger

OddsHeroic -138, Team Liquid +100

FURIA and Cloud9 have both already booked their places in the Champions Stage of the IEM Rio and one team looking to follow suit are Heroic.

Danes Heroic, who are seventh in the HLTV world rankings, opened their Legends Stage campaign with pretty comprehensive wins over Outsiders and Fnatic before losing 2-0 to Cloud9 in a round three high match last time out.

And they could also be up against it when they take on Team Liquid, who are fresh from a 16-14 win over Natus Vincere.

Liquid are third in the world rankings, came out on top in the IEM Road to Rio 2022 Americas RMR and finished as runners-up in season 16 of the ESL Pro League.

They are also prime candidates to make the Champions Stage and this could be a high-octane encounter in which over 2.5 maps looks a fine bet at -120.

Sprout could hold their own against Spirit

WhatTeam Spirit vs Sprout, CS:GO IEM Rio
WhereRio de Janeiro, Brazil
When16.00 ET, Monday November 7th
How to watchESL CS:GO Twitch & Youtube channel
OddsTeam Spirit -300, Sprout +225

Sprout eliminated Ninjas In Pyjamas from the Legends Stage with a 2-0 win last time out and their confidence should be much improved heading into their basement battle with Team Spirit.

Sprout have lost two of their three matches and have a -9 round differential, but that differential was largely influenced by their 16-5 loss to Team Liquid and they looked promising in each of their other two matches.

While they could be on the up after that win over NIP, Team Spirit have lost each of their last two fixtures against FURIA and Outsiders, battling hard but to no avail in both.

They are -300 to bounce back with victory here, but Sprout could surprise a few and are worth a bet at +1.5 on the handicap at -163.
