Harness Racing: Feiss drops Self Assured hint

Self Assured could target more glory in New Zealand rather than return home to Australia, Victorian owner Jean Feiss has suggested.

The talented pacer took out the $400,000 Trillian Trust Auckland Cup for the second time in his career when seeing off his rivals in impressive style on Friday night.

Inter Dominion doubts

It was thought that Self Assured would make a sharpish trip back across the Tasman to Australia but Feiss says she would be happy for her charge to stay where he is.

That could potentially mean missing out on the Inter Dominion Championships later in the year. However Feiss says she is happy to leave the decision to champion trainer/driver Mark Purdon.

Purdon to make the call

“I will leave all that up to Mark,” Feiss told “I think he loves racing in New Zealand and I actually think it suits him better.

“So I won’t be suggesting he comes to the Inter Dominion even though it is in my home state, and I will leave decisions about races like the Miracle Mile to Mark.

“If he wants to bring him to Australia then great. If he doesn’t, I am happy coming over here to see him race.”

Self Assured now has 26 wins from his 43 starts and has also picked up 16 placings. He has also earned almost $1.8million in prize money and connections believe there is more to come.
