NRL: Garrick working hard to replace Trbo

Manly Sea Eagles ace Reuben Garrick says upping his work-rate is the toughest challenge as he attempts to fill in for star fullback Tom Trbojevic.

The Sea Eagles are priced at 1/5 to finish in the top eight and play NRL finals and for now they are having to battle on without the injured Trbojevic.

Coping well

In fairness Manly are coping well, unlike last season when they struggled without their Dally M Medallist.

The Sea Eagles have won six of the last seven matches without Trbojevic, including victories in the last two weeks.

Garrick is doing a solid job at fullback but admits there is a lot to work on trying to match the New South Wales State of Origin star’s work-rate.

"I've tried to base my game off running hard and getting more touches," Garrick said. "I try and get out and get more plays in the set and then copy Tom a bit where he takes that play four or five carry to get our kick chase onside.

"It's just about getting my work rate up a bit more, it plays you into the game a bit more too. Then off the back of that I get out where Foz and Chez tell me to go."

Getting there

Garrick has impressed since switching from the wing and feels a lot more at home after getting minutes under his belt.

"I've got a few more runs on the board there now," Garrick added. "I'm still just filling in for the team, and they're helping me out a lot, but yes, I am feeling more comfortable. I enjoy it as well. It's a bit of a change-up from wing."
