Australian Football: Glory skipper hit by season KO

Perth Glory will be without captain Brandon O'Neill for the remainder of the A-League season as he needs to undergo surgery on the shoulder he damaged at the weekend.

Glory are priced at 6/1 to finish in the top six of the A-League but they currently sit bottom of the ladder after losing their last two games on home soil.

O'Neill injury blow

They get a chance to bounce back against the Central Coast Mariners at HBF Park on Tuesday night but will have to do it without their skipper.

O'Neill has struggled with injury throughout the season and is now facing more time on the sidelines after damaging his shoulder in the defeat to Sydney FC at the weekend.

Giordano Colli caught the eye when he came on to replace O'Neill and Glory boss Richard Garcia says he will get another chance against the Mariners.

Colli’s big chance

“With Brano hurting his shoulder, I thought Gio Colli was fantastic the other night when he came on, showed a lot of maturity and did very well,” he said. “So he’s in there for a start and he’s someone who is continuing to grow and build on his performances and he’s starting to mature as a player.

“It looks like it’s a fairly nasty one [O’Neill’s injury] and he could be [out for] the rest of the season.

“It’s been a hit-and-miss season for Brandon obviously not playing games and now it’s an opportunity for someone to step in."
