Horse Racing: Hannon confident ahead of Lingfield trip

Fancy Man will seek to continue his stellar start to all-weather racing on Saturday when he lines up in the Winter Derby Trial Stakes.

The four-year-old made a winning debut at the course in September following two runner-up efforts in the Graded Rose Of Lancaster Stakes and the Winter Hill Stakes a month prior, and now hopes to continue winning ways in Saturday's Listed 1m2f test at odds of 7/4.

Hannon eyeing future options

The colt is among the leading contenders to land Lingfield's Winter Derby Trial, which you can catch on our Sports Live Streaming hub, and trainer Richard Hannon is already eyeing lucrative prizes in the future should his runner prevail against five rivals.

"We took Fancy Man and a few others to Kempton on Tuesday for a piece of work and he's in good order," Hannon said.

"He has performed well on the surface before and, looking at the race, he should have a leading chance on his best form.

"Depending on how this weekend goes, he has an entry in the Amir Trophy in Qatar in a couple of weeks and we will have a look at the Betway Winter Derby as well."

Fancy Man will mark Hannon's first runner in the Listed contest that was won for the past two years by the Andrew Balding-trained Bangkok, who has now retired to stud.

Fierce competition expected

Hannon's runner will have to face Al Zaraqaan, who extended his all-weather record to four in January in his first start for Archie Watson and will have a first-time ride by Hollie Doyle.

King Of The South, who has racked up three wins this winter on the all-weather, is also set to oppose from the yard of William Knight.

Success on Saturday could also put Hannon in the frame for a first victory in Lingfield's £110,000 Winter Derby, which is set to run on 26th February.
