The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Hitotsu will bid to write his name into the history books today as he aims to complete a rare Victoria-Australian Derby double at Randwick.
Jockey John Allen feels that the son of Maurice has all the ability to be able to join turf greats Dulcify and Mahogany and complete the double in the Australian Derby, in which he is 5/2.
Since the Australian Derby moved in the autumn of 1979, 23 separate horses have attempted to complete the double, with only Dulcify and Mahogany able to achieve it.

"Everything he has done so far suggests he is a very good horse and hopefully he can prove that again on Saturday," Allen told Racing.com.
"He took a bit to come to hand (when he arrived), he was a bit backward in his first few trials and jumpouts.
"But the more he got into his prep, he really came to life and he was doing things at home that we were hoping he could turn out to be pretty useful."
"We won't complicate it too much, we'll just ride the horse for the first half of the race, getting him relaxed into a rhythm.
"Whether that's fifth or sixth or a bit further back, it'll be just getting him through the early stages of the race and worry about the rest after that."
