Gold Coast coach Justin Holbrook has yet to make a decision on who will captain the Titans in 2022 but says he has plenty of good options.
The Gold Coast are priced at 17/1 to win the 2022 NRL grand final and will be looking to build on last season's eighth-place finish by making finals once again.
Kevin Proctor and Jamal Fogarty shared the role as co-captains in 2021 but after the latter completed a move to the Canberra Raiders, Holbrook now has a decision to make.
Proctor has hinted he could step aside totally to concentrate on just being a senior player this season and now the door is open for someone else to step in.
Who that will be remains to be seen and Holbrook says an announcement is not too far away as he continues to weigh up all options.
"Probably in the next couple of weeks I think, that’s for sure. We’ll get around to discussing that," Holbrook told the club's website.
"I like to think we’ve got some really good options there which I’m comfortable with, but in terms of this week, it’s more about setting the year up and bringing everyone together to make sure everyone is aligned with where we need to go."
Meanwhile Holbrook was delighted to get back into finals last year but says without doubt the aim is to improve and they have been working hard in pre-season.
"Each year you’re here, you want to get better in terms of your squad and communication, the way you play and everything collectively, so I think I feel much better again, which is where we need to go," Holbrook added.
"We scraped into the finals last year and we’ve got to get better than that, so we’re really happy with the maturity [of the squad] and levels of communications.
"We’re really happy with how everything is going, but we’ve got to ramp it up now over the next months before trials."
