Aussie Rules: Holmes setback for Cats

Geelong will be without Max Holmes for a number of weeks after he picked up an ankle injury in the three-point defeat against Fremantle on Saturday.

The Cats are priced at 12/1 to win the 2022 AFL grand final but suffered a setback at the weekend when going down on home soil against the Dockers.

Holmes setback

Now there is more bad news to come from the game as Holmes picked up a syndesmosis injury and is facing a spell on the sidelines. He needs an operation to fix it before beginning his rehabilitation process.

"(Holmes) will have surgery on that which will rule him out for the short-to-medium term," Geelong head of medical and conditioning services Harry Taylor said.

"Max has completed a large body of work and we expect him to begin his rehab program before resuming and having an influence in our AFL team. He's having surgery (on Monday) afternoon and will begin his rehabilitation program from there."

Dangerfield hope

There is some better news regarding Patrick Dangerfield who has been forced to sit out the last two games with a corked calf.

The star midfielder is progressing well and has a chance of facing Greater Wester Sydney this weekend.

"Pat has completed several solid conditioning sessions and his availability will be assessed later in the week," Taylor added.
Rhys Stanley (ankle) and midfielder Sam Menegola (knee soreness) could also come in to the side to face the Giants.
