FA Cup - Football: In-form duo eye Liverpool tie

The FA Cup fifth round will reach a conclusion on Monday, with in-form Championship duo Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield set to meet at the City Ground.

There is plenty of incentive for both sides to book their place in the next round, as a home quarter-final tie with Liverpool awaits the winner later this month.

Forest can be backed at 19/20, with Huddersfield available at 16/5 and the draw is 12/5.

Forest catching the eye during cup run

It looked like being a season of struggle for Forest before Steve Cooper was appointed head coach in September, as when the former Swansea boss arrived the club were marooned at the bottom of the Championship standings.

However, fast forward six months and Cooper has the two-time European champions on the cusp of the playoff positions in the second tier and priced at 15/2 to be promoted, while he has only lost four of his 28 matches in charge across all competitions.

Only one of those defeats has come in Forest's 11 matches during 2022, a sequence that includes their impressive FA Cup victories over Premier League duo Arsenal and Leicester.

The win over defending champions Leicester in round four particularly caught the eye, as the 4-1 success at the City Ground saw Forest reach the fifth round for the first time in eight years.

A first quarter-final appearance in the FA Cup since 1996 could now be on the cards for Cooper and his team, with Forest priced at 4/9 to qualify from Monday's tie that will be decided on the night.

Terriers' form even better

If Forest's form is impressive, then it arguably pales into insignificance when compared to a Huddersfield team that are unbeaten in 18 matches across all competitions, a run that stretches back to November.

That form has seen Carlos Corberan's side not only climb into the Championship playoff positions, but Friday's 3-0 victory over Peterborough, their fourth win in a row, saw them move into second position and further boost their 11/2 hopes of being promoted.

In the FA Cup, Huddersfield claimed the notable scalp of Premier League Burnley in round three, securing a 2-1 victory at Turf Moor, while they booked their place in the fifth round with a 1-0 home success over Yorkshire rivals Barnsley.

Huddersfield are through to round five for the third time in six seasons, although the Terriers have not made it beyond that stage since 1972 - a 50-year wait they are priced at 13/8 to put right on Monday.

Fresh legs could be key

Both teams were involved in Championship action on Friday, with Forest claiming a 1-1 draw on the road at Sheffield United, while Huddersfield comfortably saw off Peterborough at the John Smith's Stadium.

Given the quick turnaround, both sides may look to freshen up their starting line ups on Monday.

Forest will be boosted by the availability of two key players, with goalkeeper Brice Samba set to return from a three-match suspension, while on-loan wing-back Max Lowe is available after being ineligible to face parent club Sheff United.

Joe Lolley, Alex Mighten and Sam Surridge are among the other players pushing for recalls, while Forest will be looking to extend their unbeaten home run across all competitions to seven matches.

The last team to beat Forest at the City Ground was Huddersfield, a 1-0 win over the festive period, and the Terriers could recall the likes of Pipa, Jonathan Hogg and Carel Eiting for their return to Nottinghamshire.

Monday's match looks set to be an exhilarating contest between two teams that are full of confidence. Liverpool will certainly have to be wary whoever they end up facing in the quarter finals.
