Australian Racing: Jetfoil out to keep good times rolling

There’s five meetings to get involved in on Thursday with provincial meetings at Hawkesbury, Northam and Ipswich plus country meets at Bendigo and Murwillumbah.

Take Jetfoil to score

In the finale at Ipswich the Annabel Neasham-trained Ghostwriter looks likely to jump as favourite following a run of second place finishes this spell. The latest of those came at this level over 1400m at Gold Coast on 11th June and while he rates a worthy his barrier draw in 14 is far from ideal.

In contrast JETFOIL is drawn four off the rail and already has a victory to his name this spell having broken his maiden in a 1615m maiden contest at Doomben when racing first up. Two placed efforts at Sunshine Coast have followed for the three-year-old and he represents the in form Helen Page yard who are 5/12 for a 42% strike-rate in the last 30 days.

While the pick delivered a second place finish when racing from off the pace in a maiden here last spell it’s notable that he’s been ridden more prominently in his three starts this time around. The wet track should prove no inconvenience given his Doomben success came on a heavy 8 and he looks up to providing jockey Jimmy Byrne with a winner.

Ginja for Collett triumph

Gwan So and In Great Nic feature towards the head of the market for the sixth race at Ipswich, a 1350m Benchmark 65 handicap. However the pair may have to give best to a freshened up GINJA who carries top weight having won two of his last three starts last spell.

The most recent of those victories came with Samantha Collett up for the first time in an 1800m Benchmark 68 event at Sunshine Coast in January. Similar underfoot conditions are forecast here and having delivered a solid third over this track and trip in a Restricted 58 event first up last spell the top weight is selected to deliver a fourth career success with all three previous victories coming on soft tracks.

Wonderwomen to complete double

Over at Hawkesbury the track is rated a good 4 with the sixth race on the card, a 1000m event playing host to the best bet at the New South Wales venue.

Dollar Magic is sure to have her supporters with Reece Jones back in the saddle following a fourth place finish in a Benchmark 64 contest over this trip when racing first up at Randwick Kensington on 15th June.

Scott Singleton’s charge was subject to support in the market when breaking her maiden at Canterbury on her second start last spell but it’s the runner-up from that Canterbury race WONDERWOMEN who is selected to deliver a victory here.

The David Payne-trained filly was beaten just under two lengths in that Canterbury race but meets her rival on more favourable terms here and showed a liking for this venue when breaking her maiden over this track and trip earlier this month.

A favourable draw in barrier three is a further positive with regards Tom Sherry’s mounts chances and she is taken to double her career tally.
