Alex Johnston was the hero for South Sydney as he grabbed a hat-trick of tries in Saturday’s 30-16 win over the Gold Coast Titans.
The Rabbitohs are aiming to finish in the top four of the NRL and they moved to sixth place on the ladder after picking up their seventh win of the season.
For the Titans their season continues to go from bad to worse after they suffered their ninth defeat in 10 games to slump to 15th place on the ladder.
Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou had plenty of praise for the Gold Coast but was pleased with the way his own players performed when returning from the bye.

"It's always tricky when you come in after a bye and a week off to get that energy level where you want it to be straight away," he said. "But credit the Titans, I think they completed at 90 per cent for the game, they came to play, their season's on the line and I thought they were desperate and we had to work hard to get over them in the end."
Despite another loss, Titans coach Jason Holbrook said he saw signs of improvement in some areas of their game but they are just lacking a spark at times.
The Titans are missing key players and Holbrook believes it shows.
"We just needed an extra spark out there," he told reporters after the game. "We tried hard, we competed hard, the forwards were enormous, but we just couldn't come up with a lot."
