Melbourne City boss Patrick Kisnorbo has labelled his squad a ‘special bunch’ as they edged closer to the Asian Champions League knockout stages in trying circumstances.
City are priced at 5/4 to win the A-League grand final this season and currently sit top of the ladder but they are also progressing nicely in the ACL.
City had to grind out a 0-0 draw against BG Pathum United on Wednesday to put them in a good position to make it through
the group.
Kisnorbo’s men remain unbeaten and if they can defeat United City, who have lost all of their group games so far, that should be enough to take them through.
Milicic set to depart Macarthur
Kisnorbo is proud of his players who have performed well in difficult circumstances.
"We've got to look at the whole picture. We've got a team that lost two starting midfielders, had players and staff who've been sick, we've come to a country where conditions are tough, we've had players injured, and we've drawn with the home team twice," he said.
"I think we had better chances than Pathum today. They had some set pieces at the end, but in terms of clear chances, we had better ones, especially on the counter-attack."
City had to withstand some heavy pressure against Pathum who had 17 attempts on goal, but they managed to keep them out.
"What this group has done, it just shows what type of players we have,” Kisnorbo added. “They try to play as hard as they can and the way they've had to deal with suspensions and injuries, it shows what type of players we have. We didn't back down and this group of players are a special bunch."
