Champion trainer Cran Dalgety says he has no concerns with Krug heading in to the $900,000 The Race without a proper lead-up and says his charge is fresh and raring to go.
Krug appeared to hit a wall when racing at Menangle. He failed to pick up a win throughout February leading to Dalgety making a call on his three-time Derby winner’s next move.
They returned to New Zealand to prepare for The Race but the cancellation of two potential lead-up races hit them again.
It will mean that Krug heads in to The Race on Thursday night without a hit-out in almost five weeks, but Dalgety is not concerned.

He points to the fact that in horse racing trainers are more than happy to head in to a big race with their horses well rested, but in harness racing it is different.
Dalgety says Krug is fresh and expects him to be in the mix.
“The galloping trainers do it all the time whereas I think in harness racing we have got it in our minds we need to be racing every week or fortnight,” says Dalgety. “He has had enough racing and is fit enough without lead-up racing so he can win for sure.”
Krug will jump from barrier four and Dalgety is more than happy with that.
“We know we are not going to burn off the Aussies early so I can see Blair (Orange, driver) slotting in the running line and not burning too much,” he added.
“There will be speed on and it is two laps, not one, so we are going to try and conserve energy for the first one.”
