Esports: League of Legends Worlds Sunday group matches

The 2022 League of Legends World Championship continues with several big matches in the group stage of the event, with ith plenty of teams still in play in each of the four pools.

All four groups have plenty of interesting matches that shape up Sunday's slate. Rogue Gaming leads off the day with a match with GAM Esports as Rogue tries to keep the top spot in Group C. Gen.G and 100 Thieves meet up in a Group D match trying to keep pace with CTBC and Royal.

Fnatic and Edward Gaming meet in the biggest match in Group A with Fnatic looking to earn a third win after playing their way through the Play-In stage.

With only eight spots open in the knockout stage these match-ups could make or break a chance for one of these teams to compete for the 2022 World Championship.

Rogue looks smooth and that should pay off

This match will be all about finding an edge. Rogue was able to start the stage on a high note as they earned a convincing win against DRX in their opening match. As for GAM Esports they couldn't muster a win against Top Esports.

Rogue had an impressive run in their qualifiers as they emerged as the winner of the LEC Summer 2022. They have improved their World Championship standing each of the last two seasons. They finished in the 9th-11th place in the 2021 Worlds.

GAM was able to win their Region in the qualifiers as they won both the Spring and Summer 2022 VCS events. The issues this team faces is their lack of Worlds experience in recent memory, as they haven't appeared at World's since 2017.

GAM had six-straight wins coming into the Main Event at World's, but they couldn't get the job done in their opening match.

They don't look destined for much better of a performance against Rogue who could easily be playing for the World Championship after this next week.

Rogue has a better line-up across the board and not to mention the experience to get the victory in this match-up.

100 Thieves has edge against Gen.G

Gen.G -1600, 100 Thieves +700

Something has to give when 100 Thieves and Gen.G square-off, as both will try to rebound from an opening match loss. Gen.G fell short against RNG in their opening match and could be heading for a second-straight loss.

As for 100 Thieves they didn't look like a unit against CFO. They have to get things right especially for a line-up that has been together for almost two years now.

The departure of Tenacity back to the Academy team didn't help in June. The LCS runner-up will try to return their focus as they aren't quite out of the running for one of the two spots out of their group.

They will look to improve off of a 9th-11th place finish at Worlds 2021. They get to try their hand against a Gen.G team that was one of the best teams in LOL last season as they finished in the 3rd-4th place in the world, which was their second finish in the top 8 at Worlds the last two seasons.

Both teams are hungry for a win, but only one can get that all important victory here and 100 Thieves has a tough rode to go, but they have the slight edge.

Fnatic has tools to make surprise run

Edward Gaming -400, Fnatic +275

In what is likely the biggest match of Sunday's slate, could make plenty of already surprising results that much more important. Fnatic has a chance to make a huge statement. They will try to get a third win in Group A.

They were able to breeze past Cloud9 and T1 in their first two matches. At the time Cloud9 looked like the favorite to win Group A.

Fnatic has had a long road, after finishing their worst ever at Worlds in 2021. Yet they have proven themselves every step of the way including having to play through the Play-In to reach this point.

The struggle in LEC Summer 2022 made it very surprising that this team was even able to qualify for Worlds.

They responded with a 4-1 record in the Play-In to book their ticket to the Main Event. Now they find themselves at 2-0 in Group A, and nearly one victory away from advancing into the final eight.

This match could make or break their hope as Edward Gaming has seen the highs of highs as they are the defending World Champion in LOL.

Yet they had a rough LPL Summer Playoff. Viper and Scout give them a great 1-2 punch, but this is just strictly business between these teams and Fnatic seems to be firing on all cylinders.

So backing Fnatic for a surprising win and run comes as no joke here.
