Premier League - Football: Liverpool's Mohamed Salah 12/1 to score 30+

With Mohamed Salah’s contract finally being extended, bet365 have priced the Egyptian at 12/1 to score 30 or more next season.

Salah initially announced he would be looking to leave Liverpool on a free transfer at the end of next season when his contract expired, but a u-turn will see him remain at Anfield until 2025 with his sights set on another Golden Boot and another Premier League title.

Salah hasn’t reached 30 since his blistering debut campaign at Anfield, which saw him win PFA Player of the Year, but he has hit 22, 19, 22 and 23 in the four seasons since.

Despite tailing off somewhat towards the end of last season, it was perhaps Salah’s best campaign since 2017/18.

In the Premier League, he ranked first for goals, xG, assists and xA, as well as first in goal-creating actions, sixth in shot-creating actions, second in shots on target and ninth in key passes.

If he can replicate that this term, the 7/1 about him winning PFA Player of the Year will look very big next year.

And with him committing his future to the Reds and being well-rested over the summer, we may see more of the same from the Egyptian King, particularly as most of his rivals will depart for the World Cup in November, with Salah getting another month’s rest.

Sceptics however, may point out that Salah turned 30 last month, and with nearly 600 senior appearances under his belt, we may have already seen his peak. He marked 25 goal contributions in his first 20 games before AFCON last season, but just 11 in the 15 games after.

It’s also a period of transition at Anfield.

Sadio Mane departed for Bayern Munich and Roberto Firmino’s future remains unclear. Luis Diaz has been fantastic since his arrival on Merseyside, with lots expected of Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho, as well as Diogo Jota – another excellent signing since his move from Wolves.

Salah should retain penalty-taking duties, looking to add to the 11 he’s scored from the spot in the last two seasons, and considering his lowest tally for Liverpool in 19 – the 14 or fewer, priced at 6/1, feels unlikely.

Despite being one of the league’s most prolific goalscorers over the last five years, Salah has only exceeded 23 goals once – in his debut campaign where he notched 32 – so the 25 to 29 bracket, priced at 7/2, will require improvement.

The Liverpool talisman is 13/8 to land within the 20 to 24 bracket for the fourth time in his career.

Elsewhere, Salah is 9/2 second favourite to be top goalscorer in the Premier League next season.
