Aussie Rules: Longmuir cool following Eagles rout

Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir has praised the strength in depth in his side after they wrapped up a 97-point pre-season demolition against the West Coast Eagles.

The Dockers are priced at 2/1 to finish in the top eight of the AFL and play finals in 2022 and optimism for the campaign will be sky high following Friday's performance.

New boys shine

There were positives all over the park with new signings Jordan Clark and Will Brodie both impressing, but Longmuir was not surprised.

He stopped short of saying the duo would be in his best 22 as there is plenty of competition for places in his side.

"They’ve been doing it all pre-season so it didn’t really surprise me today," Longmuir told reporters after the game. "We had a fair few players out today, we’ll get up to five players back next week.

"I’ve been saying it for a while, there’s good competition for spots on at the moment and there’s guys playing at Peel on Saturday that could have easily played today so it’s a good position to be in."

Keeping calm

Michael Frederick also starred when booting five goals, while Liam Henry was another to catch the eye against an Eagles side that were missing players through injury.

Longmuir was delighted with the win but is refusing to get carried away by it.

"I think all facets of our game were in pretty good order we know the Eagles are going through their issues at the moment with their injuries and aren’t playing as strong of a team as they’d like so we just tried to focus on our footy and what we could control and I was pretty happy with the evenness our of performance," he added.
