Australian Football: Mariners complete brave fightback

The Central Coast Mariners fought back from 2-0 down with 10 men to draw 2-2 with the Western Sydney Wanderers to boost their hopes of playing A-League finals.

The Mariners are priced at 2/1 to make the top six and the point picked up against the Wanderers could turn out to be a crucial one.

Brave fightback

Central Coast were losing 2-0 after Lewis Miller was sent off but came fighting back with Dan Hall grabbing the equalising goal five minutes in to stoppage time at the end of the game.

The draw keeps them four points outside of the top six but they do have games in hand on the teams above them and need to win them.

Mariners close on top six

"Every game is going to count. We've got a couple of games in hand on some teams, but unless you win those games, it doesn't matter," Mariners coach Nick Montgomery said.

"We've got five games to go now and we're going to go out to try and win every game.”

Wellington trip

Next up is a trip to Wellington to face the fifth-placed Phoenix. It will be Wellington’s first game on home soil since 30th May last year and the atmosphere will be hot.

"They've played in a FFA Cup final, they're not afraid of playing in a big atmosphere but it's going to be another good good experience for them,” Montgomery added.

"It's not going be an easy game. We'll go there full of confidence like we're playing with at the minute and five games to go, we'll give everything we've got for five games."
