South Sydney Rabbitohs have revealed Latrell Mitchell has undergone surgery to fix his knee while he also recovers from a hamstring injury.
Souths are priced at 11/2 to reach the 2022 NRL grand final and having Mitchell fully fit and firing will be crucial to their chances of going all the way.
Mitchell was ruled out for up to eight weeks after suffering a hamstring injury and Souths believe it is the ideal time to get his knee injury fixed as well.
The star fullback was needing cortisone injections in the knee to allow him to play. Souths now hope the surgery will fix the problem and he will be fully fit when he does return from the hamstring issue.

"It was well publicised before that injury that he had a knee complaint that we had been managing quite well for a couple of weeks," Souths physio Eddie Farah said.
"He will undergo an arthroscopic procedure today to shave that little bit of cartilage in the knee.
"Recovery from that type of surgery is usually four to six weeks, so it won't set back his timeline at all with the hamstring injury.
"We just thought now is the best time to get that done to give him the best chance to get back to his full fitness for the back end of the season."
New South Wales will also be keeping an eye on the situation ahead of this year’s State of Origin series.
Mitchell faces a race to be ready for game one on 8th June.
