Horse Racing: Moore aiming for Goshen repeat

Gary Moore is preparing for a big Saturday with the resurgent Goshen going for back-to-back wins in the Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton.

The six-year-old, who is priced at 11/10 to triumph in the Grade 2 contest, won the race by 22 lengths last year, but was beaten on his next five starts, including a nightmare run in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

Goshen bounced back to form with a dominant victory in the Contenders Hurdle at Sandown this month and confidence is high as he bids to join an elite group of back-to-back winners of the Kingwell.

Porticello may not head to Cheltenham

Cheltenham is already off the agenda for Goshen and Moore is also unsure whether the Grade 1-winning Porticello, who heads to Haydock on the same day for the Victor Ludorum Juvenile Hurdle, will go to this year's Festival.

The trainer has yet to confirm jockey bookings for Saturday, but he is expecting elder son Jamie to ride Goshen with younger son Josh on Porticello.

"Goshen is all good and I've been so pleased with him," Moore said. "He worked a little bit on Tuesday morning and as shown at Sandown he's finally come good again at home and on the track.

"I'm looking forward to getting him out again on Saturday. It was so nice to see him do what he did last time and look his usual self."

On Porticello, Moore added: "He goes to Haydock on Saturday but it'll depend on the ground whether he goes to the Triumph. He's got to have soft ground, which there is no guarantee he'll get at Cheltenham."
