NFL - US Sports: Neal makes his case to be top-five pick

Projected top-five draft pick Evan Neal felt he impressed at Alabama's pro day and believes he can make an impact in the NFL from day one.

Neal, who is 12/1 to be the first overall selection in this month's draft, was watched by scouts from all 32 teams - and a few high-profile figures - in Tuscaloosa on Wednesday.

Big names watch Neal

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and his Dallas Cowboys counterpart Mike McCarthy were in attendance at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility as several of the Crimson Tide's top draft prospects worked out.

Neal, listed at 6 foot 7 and claiming to weigh 337 pounds, didn't run the 40-yard dash or do anything other than position-specific drills on Wednesday.

But he felt that what he did put on show was enough to ensure he has the attention of the teams picking early on day one of the draft.

Neal pleased with performance

That includes the three teams that Neal says he has scheduled visits with - the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets and New York Giants - who currently hold the first, fourth, fifth, and seventh selections between them.

"I feel like I came out here and executed, and I feel like I came out here and checked the box, for sure," he said, via ESPN. "So I'm pleased with my performance."

Neal began his college career as a guard but later switched to left tackle - the big money-making position on the offensive line.

"You can pretty much plug me in anywhere other than center and I'll be able to come in and make an impact," he added.
