Australian Racing - Racing: Neasham seeks QLD bonus with Zaaki

The Annabel Neasham-trained Zaaki will attempt to back up his All-Star Mile success when he lines up in the Hollindale Stakes on Saturday.

Connections of the son of Leroidesanimaux will be hoping that the seven-year-old can repeat his feat of 12 months ago by winning both the Hollindale Stakes, for which he is 3/4.

Going for the double at Doomben

He will then head to next weekend's Group 1 Doomben Cup with connections hoping he will be able to snare a $200,000 bonus provided by Racing Queensland.

Neasham is confident about her stable star's chances heading into this weekend's Group 2 contest, with the drop in class something he expects will pay dividends.

"It certainly helped entice us to run him in that race because we could have probably just gone straight to the Doomben Cup," Neasham told

"He was only just beaten in a Queen Elizabeth and now coming back to a Group 2 against less-experienced horses than he has been racing against."

Zaaki, 4/5 for the Doomben Cup, did a final piece of work at Warwick Farm on Tuesday morning and will arrive at the Gold Coast on Thursday for the start of his Queensland campaign.

Neasham admits that last year's success in the Hollindale Stakes was a watershed moment for his seven-year-old and is confident of another good showing against an improved field.

He added: "Probably a stronger field than he came across last year, but he's a very consistent horse and I couldn't be happier so I see no reason why he shouldn't run another big race.

"He's a genuine weight-for-age horse who's won a lot of Group 1s and I see no reason why he can't keep going with the form he's shown his last few starts."
