Macarthur FC coach Ante Milicic admits his injury-ravaged side were second best as Melbourne Victory wrapped up a convincing win on Friday night.
Despite the defeat the Bulls remain in third place on the ladder for now and well in the mix to finish in the top six and play finals football.
Even so Milicic admits his side were well off the pace against Victory and did not deserve to take anything out of the game that was played at AAMI Park in Melbourne.
"We weren't even close tonight," Milicic told reporters after the game. "We were second best."
The Bulls were 2-0 down at halftime as Victory forward Nick D'Agostino grabbed a brace, before Marco Rojas added the third goal for the home side in the 58th minute.
The scoreline could have looked even worse for Macarthur as Victory missed numerous chances to rub salt in the wounds.
In the end Milicic's men grabbed a consolation following an error from Victory goalkeeper Ivan Kelava that led to Apostolos Giannou pulling one back in the 90th minute.
Macarthur now have to pick themselves up for a big game against Melbourne City on Wednesday night before the derby clash with Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday.
And Milicic says having a healthy squad will be crucial to their chances.
"At the moment it's (which club) can remain injury-free," Milicic added. "Who can keep their better players on the park for longer periods? Who has the most depth?
"And then you go from there. It's a season unlike any other. We've got to deal with it, it's a good challenge."
